Although I could proclaim myself a hero after surviving the heatwave of this week when temperatures reached 36 Celsius degrees in my “office”, (I actually got quite caught up in trying to beat previous year’s heat record and succeeded yesterday, but was rather disappointed when today although forecasted to be the hottest day failed to live up to its name. Come on just a flimsy 35 you can certainly do better than that!) this video I came across today while reading an article on the lucky outcome of Formula 1 pilot Robert Kubica’s crash in Canada made me stop and think for a moment about what it takes to be a real hero. In 1973 the British David Purley who by the way also suffered a crash four years later (and miraculously lived to talk about it) tried valiantly but unfortunately in vain to save the life of fellow pilot Roger Williamson. The end of the video has a quote that is so very true:
“Heroes are not made heroes because they succeed merely they try while others do nothing.”
